Large-scale Sculpture To Promote Recycling Request for Proposals | Call for Artist. $5000 Stipend

Large-scale Sculpture To Promote Recycling Request for Proposals
Call Summary:
The City of Cedarburg and Sumer Sounds invites artists to submit proposals for consideration in the design and creation of a temporary art installation in Cedar Creek Park to educate the public about the importance of waste diversion (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Proposals must include images of previous artwork (sculptures, paintings, drawing, architectural works, etc.) as well as a vision and rendering for the proposed art installation. The artwork must be composed primarily of repurposed or recycled materials to illustrate the message of reduce, reuse/repurpose, and recycle rather than throwing materials into the trash. The art installation should depict an aspect of the park, the events that take place in the park, and/or Cedarburg. The purpose of this art installation will be to remind people of the need to recycle, and the large-scale sculpture should contain a large hole located in it (as part of the design), which would hold empty bottles and cans. One example would be a guitar, which has a hole in the middle in which the cans and bottles could be placed. A photo of a large-scale sculpture of a fish is attached as an example.
The selected artist will be commissioned to create and install an original art installation and will receive a $5,000 stipend, pending grant approval.
The enhancement of public places by integrating the creative work of artists improves the pedestrian experience and promotes vibrancy, creativity and livelihood in the community. The presence of and access to public art enlivens the public areas of buildings and their grounds and makes them more welcoming. Public art illuminates the diversity and history of a community, and points to its aspirations for the future.
