A.W.E. hiring Satellite Studio Lead Artists | Create art with youth in community settings this summer!

Artists Working in Education, Inc., seeks Lead Artists for its summer Satellite Studio residency program. A.W.E. offers Milwaukee children opportunities for creative expression and discovery by sponsoring artists to collaborate with them on art projects of excellence and significance.

Satellite Studio residencies are an opportunity to create temporary or semi-permanent public art with the public. These residencies focus primarily on the visual arts, although some residencies are interdisciplinary and involve both a visual artist and performing or literary artist. Residencies range from 15 to 30-hours and are held Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in community gardens, pocket parks, Milwaukee County Recreation sites and in Milwaukee County Parks. A wide range of ages participate and drop-in to work with the artists. Artists collaborate with community partners, neighbors and A.W.E. staff, to plan, prepare, implement, evaluate, and celebrate the project.

Artists receive stipends and are required to attend an orientation session.

Qualifications include:
• Demonstrated excellence in his/her art form, including significant exhibit or performance
• Degree preferred in fine art, art education or art therapy
• Significant experience working with school age children in the arts
• Ability to facilitate the creative and learning process with children in an urban park
• Ability to mentor intern artists new to the teaching artist field
• Ability to design and implement complex, short term collaborative arts residencies
• Shows mature professional demeanor in interactions with community partners and
• Flexible and open schedule to accommodate the schedule requested by AWE
• Transportation to project sites throughout the City of Milwaukee
