Graphic Designer to Train High School Students | Train teens to build their bright future through design

Description (Ideal for recent graphic design graduates who have completed their degree)
As part of The NewSpace program, the Graphic Design Educator works with Bay View High School in teaching students the basics of graphic design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Students produce a digital collage called “personal archaeology banners” that include many layers of photos, text, and scanned objects. The educator works with students guiding them in the basics of using Photoshop as a tool to compile an inspiring, visual history of themselves. This position contributes to developing educational outlines and instruction. The Graphic Design Educator also produces other printed material for the public experience part of the program: The Milwaukee Observatory – an outdoor art installation that celebrates Milwaukee neighborhoods and history. Hours per week: Part-time, short term15-24 hours
Days: Tuesday 11-4, Wednesday12-6:30, Thursday11-4, & Select Saturdays 9:30-1:30
Duration: April 9 – August 15, 2014
Salary: TBD (based on program budget & experience)


Requirements
• A degree and educational background in Graphic Design
• Proficient & advanced in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator)
• Experience in critiquing student work and offering positive, motivating suggestions with a plan of action
• Very comfortable around high school students and can mage a small group of teens
• Professional experience contributing to design concepts
• Experience teaching Adobe Photoshop and prior experience putting together a class outline is preferred
• Strong verbal skills
• Ability to take direction from a Media Producer and experiment with ideas
• Must have a graphic design portfolio in digital and physical samples
• Portfolio must contain aesthetically “positive” work
• Ability to work in layers and have a love of typeface

• Applicants must be available to work ALL indicated hours & weeks throughout the short-term employment.
• Sorry no vacations during a short-term employment that would impact work hours

skills, passion for sharing design knowledge, and ability to work the required hours
• All sessions are held at Discovery World in the Print or Digital Arts Lab. These are Macintosh based labs with Adobe Creative Suite version 5.5.
