Greenfield Avenue Bridge Mural | Looking for proposals to create a new gateway mural for the Harbor District.

Harbor District, Inc. is excited to announce a call for artists to create a mural on the west face of the East Greenfield Avenue railroad bridge located immediately east of the intersection of East Greenfield Avenue and South Barclay Streets.

This underpass is the gateway to the Harbor District and the only entrance to the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences and several large properties with immense future development potential. Harbor District, Inc. is currently working on a project to develop a park along the waterfront at the east end of Greenfield Avenue (for more information visit http://harbordistrict.org/take-me-to-the-river/). To better connect the park to the neighborhoods to the west, we are planning a series of public art, infrastructure, and wayfinding improvements beginning with this mural.

While the mural space is relatively small, the potential to transform this corridor and draw the attention of passersby is large. With 2,800 Rockwell Automation employees a block away, the many new customers of Cermak Grocery next door, and the thousands of daily commuters that travel down South First Street all within view of this underpass, this mural will be seen by many people. Our goals for the project are to build awareness around the Harbor District and attract people to explore the area to the east of the railroad tracks and along the waterfront.
