Fiber artists of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) present their work at the Plymouth Arts Center in an exhibition entitled “Blues & Other Hues.” This brand-new exhibit is inspired by the PAC’s annual Jazz and Blues Crawl Fundraiser for the Arts and features over 65 art quilts created by SAQA artists from Wisconsin, Illinois and invited members. SAQA defines an art quilt as "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure." Music and Art, creativity and imagination, innovation and perception, one affects the other until the edges blur. Envisioning rhythm, balance and texture the artist is free from any preconceived notion of cloth. The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception held in Gallery 110 North, in conjunction with the Jazz Crawl, on Friday, August 9th, 2019 from 4:30pm to 8pm. The show will be on display through October 4th. “Blues & Other Hues” is generously sponsored by Van Horn Auto. Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc.is a nonprofit organization, celebrating its 30th anniversary, whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA members now number more than 3,400 artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors. As an international organization, SAQA is a world-wide resource for information on all things art quilt related. In addition to mounting museum-quality exhibitions that travel the world, SAQA documents the art quilt movement through exhibition catalogs and the continuing series of Portfolios, the art quilt sourcebook. Over the past 30 years, SAQA has evolved into an active and dynamic organization that offers many services to their members as well as to the community at large. SAQA creates professional development opportunities for their membership that continues to address the ever-changing needs of the artist. From basic studio management to mastering current technology for both business and artistic purposes, SAQA members have access to a treasure trove of support for taking their artwork and career to the next level. The Cheese Capital Jazz & Blues Crawl is Plymouth Arts Center’s major annual fundraiser. The event features live musical entertainment from 4:30-9:00pm in PAC Greatroom and in the outdoor courtyard. Eleven bands will perform throughout the evening at the PAC and at participating Clubs and Restaurants where music continues through midnight. Fundraising festivities include the sale of keepsake wristbands, a grand silent auction, painting raffle for an exquisite watercolor/pastel, “Light in the Forest,” created and generously donated by artist Colette Odya Smith, Big Cash Raffle, (win up to $1000,) PAC’s Bourbon Street Café with food by Three Guys & a Grill, and a cash bar. The Plymouth Arts Center is located in downtown Plymouth, WI, 520 E. Mill Street, at the corner of Eastern Avenue and Mill and North Streets. Regular gallery hours are: Tuesday-Friday, 10am to 4pm; Saturday and Sunday, Noon-3:00pm, (or by special appointment.) Closed Mondays and Holidays. Admission to Gallery 110 North is always free through the generosity of our sponsors. School and tour groups are welcome to schedule docent led tours.
