This workshop will help you learn how to submit your writing for publication in literary journals and magazines.

We will begin with a short discussion about the benefits writers gain from publication and how it helps us sustain the energy to write and helps to create community. Participants will learn about research methods to identify publication opportunities (including online databases), tracking systems to make the most of the opportunities available, and other strategies for publication. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice writing their own submissions cover letters and will walk away from the workshop with a number of tactics to get their writing published this year.

Both published writers and writers who haven’t published anything yet are invited to this workshop. Writers who have seen their work in print already are invited to share their own publication successes and challenges and learn about new tools. Writers who are brand-new to publishing are invited to learn the basics and get motivated to send out their work.

Poets as well as fiction, nonfiction, and cross-genre writers will benefit from attending. This workshop is not geared toward book-length manuscripts or journalism.

$10 for MARN members and $15 for non-members.

Scholarships are available: any writer who needs a scholarship may send a very short (1-page or less) writing sample and a paragraph about why he or she is interested in attending the workshop to by April 16th
