artist bio

Jason Altobelli is an artist living and working in Milwaukee, WI.

A transplant from New Hampshire he arrived in the Midwest in 2007 and has recently emerged on the scene exhibiting locally and in Chicago.

Finding his humble beginnings as a graffiti artist he received a B.F.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004 where he studied fine art photography with a concentration in psychology.

Gravitating towards painting after college he took on a more narrative approach to creating his artwork, exploring how images, tone, and movement become conversational as they relate to each other.

* Currently selected as a Protege in the MARN mentor/protege 2012-2013 program.

artist statement

Revolving around a continual fascination with psychology my artwork is a springboard into the psyche of both the artist and the audience.

Captivated by the idea that people “fall in love” with an artwork I have been pursuing multiple ways of expressing this universal idea. Through a combination of abstraction and narration I hope to achieve a balance between what is logical and emotional while creating artwork that resonates deeply within the core of the audience.

“The Canadian hip hop artist Classified said it best in the line; “I’d like to believe there’s more to me than Emceeing, but I write to the beat so that that’s what I ended up being.” That’s the same approach I take to art, it’s been the constant in my life for so long it’s become part of who I am and how I define myself. ”
