artist statement

I saw the tears of the oppressed—
and they have no comforter;
power was on the side of their oppressors—
and they have no comforter.
And I declared that the dead,
who had already died,
are happier than the living,
who are still alive.
But better than both
is he who has not yet been,
who has not seen the evil
that is done under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 4:1-3).

The blatant societal violence, cruelty, fear, and hypocrisy belching forth around the world seems incomprehensible. Tolerance of our societal injustices and fallacies plague my mind. We witness horrific tragedies we possess the power to end. I confront the internal and external social constructs that dictate our behavior. I am left to wonder why we continue to allow these injustices to perpetuate.

My prints are black and white, wrought with grey issues, graphically busy, strongly figurative, and combine social commentary in a contemporary fashion. Relief prints provide a punch and presence; a facet satirization utilizes to be heard. Society needs satirization to begin the dialogue so the positive future can be raised.
