artist statement

My work stems from a deep fascination with the intricate weave of our lives and our spiritual existence. It is about the deconstruction and reconstruction of each moment in time. This fascination has, even in my very early memories, haunted my life.
I choose abstract work because it seems fitting with this exploration, dealing with shapes, color, line, composition and working them into a whole. I am most inspired by the fundamentals of life and art. My work begins, like most abstract work, with a vague shape which I sketch directly on the paper, making each line directly interact with the previous one. The lines bounce and interact with each other as I add each new one until it feels complete at which time I start with the watercolor paint in the same manner. As in life, I work the abstracts with certain boundaries but within that it is a free-flowing work in progress, each step building on the previous action.
