Milwaukee Public Theatre, Ltd. is a professional, not-for-profit outreach company that creates and presents performing arts productions and related arts and education activities that increase awareness of current social issues, promote accessibility and diversity, and provide healing arts resources.

artist statement

The Milwaukee Public Theatre (formerly Friends Mime Theatre) was founded in 1973-74 by Dr. Barbara Leigh and Michael Moynihan. As the areas longest-running professional outreach theatre, the company has created and toured over 90 original productions, reaching over a million people throughout the community, state and region. Productions range from solo presentations to huge puppet parades. The company has a strong educational and healing arts component that includes workshops and artist residencies. MPT is unique in developing work which integrates persons with disabilities into the theatre arts. The company also provides employment and training opportunities to young Milwaukee performing and visual artists who come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. MPT's most recent major outreach project is "Cultivating Community Through Public Art", which includes the All-City People's Parade and collaboration with the Dia de los Muertos parade, Lindsay Heights Harvest Day Parade, Gordon Park 4th of July Parade, Summer of Peace and many others.
