artist statement

My process involves the collection and appropriation of images and words from various ephemera, such as photographs, documents and film. I am interested in de-contextualizing this information and re-contextualizing it into mixed media works. These new constructions are a hybrid of drawing, painting, and collage, and create ambiguous meanings that complicate understanding. When I install the work, I try to build relationships between the pieces that are either reinforced or negated depending on location and proximity. I consider the final outcome of my work as an installation consisting of many drawings that form a whole.
