artist statement

I am a realist acrylic and watercolor painter and a photographer. I have been exhibiting my work and competing for over 30 years. I hold signature or juried status in several National and International Art Societies.

The main subject in all my art is light and its influence on the objects in the scene. Currently, my focus has been on light and the male figure. I tend to work in series, selecting a challenge or something I want to learn more about and then completing works in order to gain an understanding of what I am trying to achieve or overcome.

With respect to my photography, I initially took photographs to paint from since my realistic paintings can take quite some time. As a realist, I compose the photograph as I would the painting and then paint what I capture. Recently, I began seeing my photography as work that can stand on its own as art and I've begun exhibiting my photography and getting the work accepted into juried competitions.
