artist bio

Liala Amin is a Milwaukee artist who received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fibers from the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014. Her work includes mixed media paintings, drawings, and textiles. She works between mediums, oftentimes combining all in one piece, to explore the tactile nature of how materials can narrate her story.

Amin’s work is a personal exploration of self-acceptance through themes of spirituality and identity. She considers her work a visual journal and an outlet to manifest introspection and responses to the process of personal growth. Her work has been exhibited within local and Midwest group exhibitions in FemFest, SWAN Day Milwaukee, Warped Milwaukee, and Old Courthouse Arts Center.

artist statement

My art is meditation. I explore my identity through art, processing my life experiences and searching for a spirituality in which to call mine, separate from influence and using my own intuition. In my work I seek personal truth and acceptance, self-love and healing. While gaining independence and claiming my own voice, I maneuver through truth and reconciliation to new knowledge and understanding. Sometimes it’s terrifying but it is always rewarding.
I consider my work a visual journal to manifest introspection and reflections on the process of growth. My current work explores breaking from concealment to express revelations of becoming who I am meant to be. I am finding the medicine to acknowledge past traumas and the pathway to spiritual strength.
Each artwork is built piece by piece according to how it opens my heart and mind, creating the physical manifestation of my journey
