Nic Bernstein

artist bio

I hold leadership positions in a handful of Milwaukee technology companies involved with the Internet and its role in business and community. I have been working with the Internet in one form or another since putting Discovery World Museum online in 1987, in my long-time role in Exhibit Development there. My work in exhibit development was a natural outgrowth of my work in technical theatre. From 1980 to 1994 I practiced lighting and set design and technical direction with a plethora of local companies and touring performers. Among these are Home Town Talent, Paradox Studio Theatre, Paper Tiger Productions, Hansberry-Sands Theatre, Inner City Arts Council, Peoples Theatre Co., Friends Mime Theatre, Mark Anderson (Sleepless parts V-VII), Great Lakes Opera, Paul Krajniak, Pioneers in Modern Typography, DanceCircus, Gus Giordano Dance Co., Richard Haisma Dance, The Metropole Theater and its resident company, and others. Through the artists partnership program at the Lincoln Center for the Arts, I performed lighting design residencies for Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Roosevelt Middle School for the Arts, and Elm Creative School in 1989 and 1990.

artist statement

I no longer practice my art, but remain involved in the arts community as a patron, collector and through my involvement with The Battery Factory. The Battery Factory mission is to ignite performance and visual arts activities, broadening the vision of Milwaukee's cultural life.
