Bonita Bruch is a Wisconsin artist. She attended Layton School of Art for two years, then UW-Milwaukee...earning double majors...BAs in Journalism & Fine Art Painting. For the next 25 years, as Bonnie Berglund Bruch, she worked as a newspaper reporter, fundraiser, freelance writer. In 1999, she finally returned to doing pastel art. Two years ago, Bonita took acrylic landscape painting classes with Fred Bell. She is a member of the Milwaukee Sketch Club,Wisconsin Pastel Artists, Wisconsin Visual Artists, Jewish Artists Laboratory, Riverwest Artists Association, League of Milwaukee Artists, and Milwaukee Artists Regional Network [MARN]. artist statement
I am a visual artist who strives to create painterly, stylistic portraits of people caught unaware in moments in time...in a moment that we all might experience.
When I work with Conte crayons & pastels, I love using my fingers to smudge and smear my drawings into their colorful stories. Most of my portraits are developed from 5,10,15 sketches.
I use acrylics and caran d'ache to create my plein air and landscape paintings. I enjoy using these mediums because I love their fluidity..sometimes I find these mediums easier to work with than pastels. Lately, I find myself making all of my artwork...loud...boisterous...and sometimes sassy!
