artist statement

Dark paintings surround the viewer. Each is an embodiment of a dream-like place which does not exist; a receptacle of time and space. In the act of painting, my body channels energy through the gestural marks on a thin, two dimensional textured surface. Sliding, twisting, turning, hitting, rubbing, scraping… fingers, palms, arms, knees, shins, toes, and heels create a space of transition.

As the viewer moves through the gallery the darkness shifts, emitting light. This experience of time and space is Khora.
