artist bio

I bring a long history of the written word to my art practice. After graduating from Marquette University, I lived and worked as a news reporter and advertising copywriter in New York, Minneapolis and Chicago. When I moved back to Milwaukee in 2016, I was ready for a change of expression; that's when I put down the pen and picked up the paintbrush.

I recently completed a juried mentorship in the MARN 2019 Emerging Artist program. This year-long partnership has facilitated my ongoing development as a painter.

My artwork is represented by Gallery 2o7, Milwaukee. My work has shown locally in juried shows at the Art Bar, Scout Gallery, Walker Point Center for the Arts and annually at Sanger House Gardens during the Doors Open Milwaukee.

Next year I will have a Solo Show at Gallery 2622, in Wauwatosa, WI.

artist statement

My work explores color relationships, and the experience of color. I am fascinated by the way the arrangement of colors on the canvas can soothe, uplift, and provoke. Like vitamins for spirit. My keenly felt experience of color is mediated through textures, marks and patches of pigment. My painting process involves the intuitive addition and subtraction of pigment, exposing buried layers of colors, shapes and textures. Eventually, the final version emerges with its own color DNA.
