Beyond the Canvas: October 19-26, 2012

Menomonee Valley Celebrated Through the Eyes of Local Artist

MILWAUKEE – A series of creative events encompass a week-long autumn celebration of the Menomonee Valley by Milwaukee area artists. “Beyond the Canvas” is a non-traditional plein air event during which more than 60 established and emerging artists explore the Menomonee Valley and create works of art inspired by the area. These artworks represent a variety of media and will be exhibited from October 19-26 at the Pedal Milwaukee Building, 3618 W. Pierce Street. October 26th marks the closing reception of “Beyond the Canvas” from 5pm-9pm. This FREE event will feature an awards ceremony for the artists, local food and beverages and live Jazz by Milwaukee band, Vivo,

“This event [Beyond the Canvas] honors working artists of our community, both established artists we know and love and those who are aspiring to gain experience and success. We are excited to feature our beautiful and historic Menomonee Valley through the works of such artists as Shelby Keefe, Eddee Daniels, John Riepenhoff, Melissa Dorn Richards, Francis Ford, Brad Anthony Bernard, Thea Kovak, and more. “

“The exhibit is extended to one week in response to public feedback and will close with a celebration including live music, awards, silent auction and refreshments.”

What is Beyond the Canvas?

“Beyond the Canvas” encompasses all types of media and artwork will be juried in five categories: Traditional (Oils, Acrylics, Watercolors, Pastels, Charcoal, Pencil), Time-Based Media, Photography/Digital, Printmaking, and Sculpture/Assemblage. Prizes will be awarded at both the established and emerging levels. This event encourages artists of all levels to come together and celebrate the Menomonee Valley.

Presented by the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN) for the third consecutive year, “Beyond the Canvas” presents a series of free events designed to engage the community. A Gallery Night opening, “Lunch and Learn” instructional sessions, painting demonstrations and a Closing Reception with silent auction, awards ceremony, live music, food and beverages comprise this seminal event.
