artist bio

Angela Pierro is a graduate of the OCAD University (Ontario College of Art and Design University) in Toronto. Pierro also studied in Europe, through York University’s off-campus program attending lectures at the Royal College of Art, University of Brighton in England, École Superieure d’arts Graphiques et d’architecture in Paris, France, and at the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. Pierro went on to work as a graphic designer and art director in various Canadian and American corporations, then worked as the principal of her own design firm and part-time faculty at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Angela Pierro was selected to show her work at The Michigan Governor’s Residence in Lansing, Michigan, The North American Headquarters for Mercedes-Benz R&D, and the Women's Art Association in Toronto, Ontario. Her work is in Washtenaw Community College’s Permanent Art Collection, and is part of several private and corporate collections in Canada and the U.S.

She currently resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

artist statement

My fascination with light and observations of it's affect on both color and our visceral response is the driving force behind my paintings. I create works that are abstract, stripping away objects and figures that represent the reality that we are most familiar with. Colors added to the canvas illuminate the surface with imperceptible, brushstrokes evoking an atmospheric aura. My work is an escape to an intangible reality and the exploration of the dynamic space that exists between the light and the dark. Within that space is a powerful phenomenon that invites quiet contemplation.
