artist statement

Kate Stensberg is an emerging artist from southeastern Wisconsin. She has the vision to create from imagination rather than realistic references. Her pieces are known for bold strokes and strong use of color.

Inspired by peers, this self-taught artist brings energy and emotion through her work. Kate grew an appreciation and love for art from her artist mother, Ann Sheahan. It wasn’t until five years ago that she picked up a paint brush herself.

Kate’s style is growing to include spray paint and cedar strip frames. With an artistic background in nautical woodworking, Kate finds beauty within the cedar wood grains. Her work includes a cedar-strip kayak and a refinished 1956 Chetek run-about boat. Kate spends summer months vacationing in northern Wisconsin where she draws inspiration from nature and wildlife.
