2016/17 MARNsalon
MARNSALON 2016/17 SERIES
The 2016/17 MARNsalon program was generously funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl grant, PNC Bank, Harry Hoffmann Family Foundation, Merriment Social, and Sugar Maple.
MARNSALON 2016/17 CALENDAR:
MARNsalon I with Marty Pottenger: October 26th-27th, 2016
MARNsalon II with Jessica Lynne, Feburary 26th-27th, 2017
MARNsalon III with Edgar Endress, April 7th-8th, 2017
MARNSALON CRITICS:
Marty Pottenger is a theater artist, animateur, and social practitioner since 1975. She is the Founding Director of Art At Work (AAW), a national initiative that increases cities’ resilience through strategic art projects addressing contemporary social challenges. Nominated for National League of Cities ‘Best Practices’ award, AAW projects include police/community relations, racial segregation, labor/management conflicts, community health, and gentrification/homelessness. AAW partners with municipal/county governments, unions, community organizations, and artists, with current projects in Portland ME, Philadelphia, Boston and Broward County, FL. Pottenger’s plays include OBIE-winning “City Water Tunnel", “ABUNDANCE: America & Money”, based on interviews with 30 millionaires and 30 minimum wage workers; and #PhillySavesEarth (2016) written during her 2016 MacDowell residency. Her TEDx talk is on YouTube. http://www.martypottenger.com
Jessica Lynne is a Brooklyn based arts administrator and critic. She received her BA in Africana Studies from NYU and has been awarded residencies and fellowships from Art21 and The Cue Foundation, Callaloo, and The Center for Book Arts. Jessica contributes to publications such as Art in America, The Art Newspaper, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, and Pelican Bomb. She's co-editor of ARTS.BLACK, a journal of art criticism from Black perspectives, and a founding editor of the now defunct (but still special) Zora Magazine. Currently, Jessica serves as the Manager of Development and Communication at Recess. Find her on Twitter and Instagram at @lynne_bias.
Edgar Endress teaches new media and social practice at George Mason University. Born in Chile, Endress has exhibited extensively throughout the world, most recently at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) in 2015 and in the Land Art Biennial in Mongolia in 2016, The Getty Pacific Standard Time in 2017. In association with Provisions Library, he initiated the Floating Lab Collective, a team of interdisciplinary artists who deploy innovative art projects in collaboration with urban communities. His work focuses on syncretism in the Andes, displacement in the Caribbean, and mobile art-making practices. He received his MFA in Video Art from Syracuse University and has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Creative Capital Fund.
