artist bio

Bonita Bruch is an active member of the Milwaukee Sketch Club,Wisconsin Pastel Artists, Wisconsin Visual Artists, Jewish Artists Laboratory, Riverwest Artists Associ-ation, League of Milwaukee Artists, and MARN [Milwaukee Artists Regional Network]

She attended Layton School of Art for two years, then graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a BA degree in Journalism and Fine Arts. As Bonnie Berglund Bruch, she pursued a writing/ fund-raising/nonprofit career for 36 years. In 1999, she rediscovered her interest in creating visual art while recuperating from a broken knee. artist statement

I strive to create painterly, stylistic portraits of people caught unaware in a moment in time...a moment that we all experience.
When I work with conte crayons, pastels & oil pastels, I love smudging the my drawing into a story. Most of my portraits come from 5,10, 15-20 minutes sketches.
My plein air paintings and still lifes are mostly done with acrylics and caran d'ache. I enjoy making them boisterous...and sometimes sassy!
