artist bio

I bring a long history of the written word to my art practice. After graduating from Marquette University, I lived and worked as a news reporter and advertising copywriter in New York, Minneapolis and Chicago. When I moved back to Milwaukee in 2016, I was ready for a change of expression; that's when I put down the pen and picked up the paintbrush.
My artwork is represented by Gallery 2o7, Milwaukee. You may also purchase my artwork at Scout Gallery, Milwaukee. My work has shown locally in juried shows at the Arts Mill, The Art Bar, Scout Gallery, Walker Point Center for the Arts and at Sanger House Gardens during the Doors Open Milwaukee. In 2019 I completed a juried mentorship in the MARN 2019 Emerging Artist program. This year-long partnership has facilitated my ongoing development as a painter.

My first solo show, "A Brush with Color" was held in February 2020 at Gallery 2622, in Wauwatosa, WI.

artist statement

My work explores the painterly process, with a focus on color. Colors are like vitamins for the human spirit. I am fascinated by the powerful way color informs a space, and touches the viewer on a deep, pre-verbal level.

My keenly felt experience of color is rendered through textures, marks and raw patches of pigment. The process of painting involves the intuitive addition and subtraction of paint and materials, scratching off layers to expose a history of buried shapes and surprises of color. I work in oil, acrylics, collage, spray paint and found materials. Eventually, the piece acquires its own color DNA.

These days, I find inspiration and a twilight beauty in declining urban spaces: down alleys, on old billboards, up fire escapes and along cracked building facades.
