2018/19 MARNmentors Application for Mentees Closed

MARNmentors is a competitive, juried, one-year artist mentorship program offering emerging artists the opportunity to partner with area established artists to further their artistic practice while engaging in building a career as a working artist.

Eligibility
• Open to artists based in the Greater Milwaukee area.
• Ideal candidates show promise and dedication to their creative work as a career.
• Artists are at a moment in which access to a mentor and a supportive environment will be meaningful to their practice and arts career.
• Artists may NOT be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program or equivalent. (exception made for curatorial)

April 28: Business Planning for Artists Workshop 11-4pm
May 3: Mentor/mentee meet and greet 6-8pm

Types of Disciplines
Works on paper, sculpture, painting, photography, new media, installation, ceramics, graphic design, spoken-word and musicians/sound artists are encouraged to apply.
For the Curator mentee we are seeking either a curator or emerging arts administrator that seeks to gain experience in how to curate, manage, promote, and maintain temporary public art that involves community engagement as a key component. Successful candidates will be highly organized and
self-motivated.

Program Expectations
MARNmentors serves artists actively in need of career support and arts networking and, selected artists are expected to meet with Mentors for a minimum of 2 hours per month. Mentors and mentees create a flexible schedule based on availability of both parties. Availability for workshops and business one-to-ones as well as networking events and occasionally to share work in progress with peers and participate in group critiques if decided by the team.
Milwaukee Artists Resource Network (MARN) embraces inclusivity, diversity and equality therefore strongly encourages and welcomes all emerging artists to apply to the MARNmentors program. We believe the arts are essential to leading a full and productive life and this affirms our support for making the arts available to all people.
MARN has reduced fees for MARNmentors in an effort to reduce barriers to application and participation. Please note: The program is subsidized by grants and corporate support. The full value of the program is well in excess of $1000 however due to the level of support this program garners we are able to offer a lowered tuition of $100 to all participants.

Creative Community
• Monthly mentor meetings to build meaningful relationships, networks and resources
• Work with your peers to creatively shape the mentorship according to your needs
• Gain exposure and expand your audience through MARN’s public programming

Exhibition Opportunities
• One group final exhibition in a dedicated gallery space
• MARN marketing support, including press releases, website announcement, social media, and mailings

Professional Development
• MARNmentors works with you to develop a customized professional development plan based on your vision and personal goals
• Free access to MARN’s educational workshops and business consultations
• One-on-one studio visit opportunities with prominent members of the greater arts community through MARNsalon.
